Honiara has got quite the story to tell, so it makes sense to begin there. Often, the tours start with a visit to the Solomon Islands National Museum, and, of course, that gives you some background on the country’s history and culture. There are artifacts and exhibits, really giving some insights, that kind of thing, into the island’s heritage. Now, the museum will, that said, often only be a starting point. Many tours also tend to take you to some historical spots from World War II. Guides are, in general, fantastic at painting some pretty vivid pictures of what went on during those years, like your time-traveling a bit.

Tours tend to roll through some of Honiara’s local markets, as well, that’s what it’s like, seeing some everyday life play out. You will find, very, everything there from fresh produce to handcrafted souvenirs. Basically, it is just a chance to interact with local vendors. Getting involved with it all, you get a real sense, at the end of the day, of the local culture, as well. As I was saying, one of the highlights for some, really, might be a trip up to Skyline Ridge. From there, you have some amazing views of the city and Iron Bottom Sound. Honestly, that panoramic vista is definitely worth grabbing your camera. Be sure, too it’s almost, to check out the local churches or the Parliament House to, you know, see some modern Solomon Islands architecture. Guadalcanal WWII battlefield

Alright, so for history buffs, or someone into that kind of thing, then, you might say, a Guadalcanal WWII Battlefield Tour is right for you. So, Guadalcanal was pretty, that said, important during the Second World War, so, the battlefields around here have got quite a bit to show and tell. Many of the tours take you to places like Bloody Ridge. Arguably, Bloody Ridge was actually the scene of some seriously intense fighting between American and Japanese forces. What is so intriguing, after all, is that the guides are really good at sharing details, you might say, of the battles, along with personal stories from soldiers. Many actually highlight the strategies used during those skirmishes.

Another spot that is, usually, part of the tour is the US War Memorial. From there, as a matter of fact, is a chance to pay your respects to the soldiers who actually died in action. I think it’s pretty somber, though actually really important to see, personally. You can also, too it’s almost, find various other memorials. Very many mark various battle sites across Guadalcanal. Those tours, what is so neat, tend to offer a deeper look into the war, and a sense, really, of its impact on the islands and its people. You know, they are typically, like your, half-day outings. A main attraction over there would be that some sunken ships exist not very far from Bonegi Beach. Over many years they’ve grown to become, very, artificial reefs with a large variety of different sea animals swimming about.

You may discover that you get taken out there in a boat. Usually, the tour company can get the equipment sorted out prior. That whole time spent floating just above shipwrecks gives you a surreal feeling. You’ll soon notice shoals, perhaps, all kinds of fish in a spectrum of colours, also plants growing everywhere around this metallic hulk underwater, often. Basically, even just taking some time out there above the turquoise waters offers such bliss. Do keep this one there, just pretty, to add to that possibility list while considering things.
