I mean, basically, it’s kind of like stepping into another land. You’ll see trees so incredibly tall they seemingly tickle the sky, a little. Imagine cypress knees popping up, very alien-like, from the swamp floor, and a bio-diversity that quite makes you feel, actually, that you’ve traveled, basically, to a far more tropical location.
You’ve really got a lot of trail choices too, you know. There’s the Boardwalk Loop, it tends to be super easy, and, arguably, it is super accessible, and this will take you, very, through the heart of the forest on an elevated walkway; that way you get that prime viewing experience and, surprisingly, it protects that delicate ecosystem. For something a bit tougher, and slightly off the beaten track, look into the Weston Lake Loop. It kinda leads to pretty spectacular views, maybe, actually, wildlife sightings are thrown in there for free too. Watch out for those pesky mosquitoes, so bring along bug spray, very, or you might become lunch.
Here’s the real thing, this park it usually transforms completely, after it rains. Portions of the trails might just get flooded, basically turning into what the locals, very often, refer to as “the swamp”. When those waters begin to rise, too it’s a perfect excuse to break out the canoe or kayak and more or less go paddling through the trees. Check trail conditions before you go out, and maybe, actually, check the park’s event schedule too. Ranger-led tours can provide super insights into the park’s ecology and history, and that, in a way, actually makes it a richer, way better, experience.
