The South West of England, that pretty collection of counties hugging the coast, is very much a food lover’s actual playground. That is to say, from pretty awesome seafood to scrumptious cream teas, this place has seemingly got something for everyone’s taste buds. We thought we’d highlight, just a bit, some truly awesome spots that showcase the best the region appears to have to offer. They’re very much places that not only serve amazing food and drinks but very much capture the special essence, too it’s almost, of this gorgeous corner of the world.
1. Rick Stein’s Seafood Restaurant, Padstow
Padstow, a seriously charming harbor town in Cornwall, it might be, is quite synonymous with Rick Stein, anyway. Very much his Seafood Restaurant is sort of an institution. He actually became, for all intents and purposes, part of the towns very DNA it’s almost. Is that the food here, in a way, is an awesome celebration of the sea’s bounty. Dishes like the grilled lobster, so fresh and flavorful, arguably might be worth the trip alone. That and the Cornish butter that complements them. They apparently source their ingredients from the local fishermen, so really everything is fresh. Like the monkfish and lemon sole. In a way, you absolutely get the feeling, very, of, perhaps, tasting the ocean when you eat here. 2. The Pig, Brockenhurst
Okay, so The Pig in Brockenhurst, deep inside the New Forest, definitely presents a pretty delightful take on the farm-to-table experience. That actually means that pretty much they grow a large percentage of their own produce in the kitchen garden. So it all very much ensures super freshness and amazing, that, flavor. We all, basically, thought the menu is completely dictated, or heavily swayed at least, by what the gardeners and foragers bring in each day, it seems. Their pork dishes, as an example, very much celebrate local breeds, arguably cooked with both skill and, in some respects, affection. It seems a rather warm and inviting spot, apparently with a relaxed, cozy feel that sort of encourages you just a bit to linger over your meal. And also a pretty good selection of wines, also from pretty close to the area too, apparently are also well paired, so the dining is even better! 3. Bath Soft Cheese Co., Park Farm
Ok, we think no trip to the South West is likely ever quite complete, arguably, without sinking your teeth into some local cheese, that, you see. So very much a visit to the Bath Soft Cheese Co. at Park Farm actually presents a pretty awesome, that, opportunity to sample, and also buy, award-winning cheeses. They are completely handmade in small batches there too, actually. It really adds to, seemingly, a unique depth to their cheeses and very specific cheeses at that, actually. Bath Soft Cheese is almost incredibly, so a very good example. What we liked, as well, is the nice setting; it makes you just want to enjoy, very, a cheese platter, some local bread and that glass of cider, maybe just outside, maybe overlooking the pretty Somerset countryside, potentially! 4. Sharpham Wine, Totnes
Located in South Devon, that, Sharpham Wine makes a perfect destination for those who absolutely appreciate locally produced wine, very. The vineyard apparently sits on the banks of the pretty River Dart and seemingly creates some awesome wines. Plus some delicious cheeses, so it goes together, it seems, you, likely. What, for instance, they focus on at the winery seems to be sustainable practices, potentially so very good if, as I was just saying, it’s important to the wine maker’s ethical process is taken into consideration for the potential wine consumer. Apparently you might, if the opportunity exists, just possibly take a vineyard tour, learning apparently everything there is almost to possibly know regarding wine-making process before very much, you almost sample the fruits, well almost drinks, of their labor! Their Dart Valley Reserve is pretty awesome and rather reflects the quality of Devon wines too, in some respects! 5. The Hidden Hut, Portscatho
Oh The Hidden Hut, nestled right by Portscatho in Cornwall, tends to be a completely special little spot, maybe almost for a completely simple lunch, arguably. Located directly on the coastal path, this little hut pretty much serves up the most awesome, sort of almost rustic food with the most fantastic views you, it seems, potentially will encounter. Is that there tends to be, sometimes, a long queue to wait a bit in during peak season, and on some busy weekends potentially! But arguably the rewards actually make it worthwhile. They completely specialize in super grilled seafood, hearty stews, sometimes pretty filling salads, perhaps which you actually eat outside while apparently soaking in that gorgeous view over the crystal Cornish coast too, in some respects!
