Top 5 Strahan Half-Day Tours: Reviews & Recommendations

Strahan Half-Day Tours

Strahan, you know, it’s almost like this tucked-away jewel right on Tasmania’s wild West Coast. Very gorgeous. While a longer visit could certainly reveal even more, not everyone quite has the time. Good thing, too, you don’t exactly need days upon days to drink in the atmosphere. Short and sweet jaunts, like half-day tours, those are often that just right pick for seeing what makes Strahan, well, Strahan. So, let’s have a look, actually, at some pretty special ways you could soak up Strahan’s charm in just a half-day, with my top recommendations.

1. The Gordon River Cruise (Morning Edition)

Gordon River Cruise

This is one of those very iconic experiences. It shows off Strahan’s heart, actually. Many operators run a half-day version of this cruise in the mornings, usually. You could see that really dark, reflective waters of the Gordon River are something else. It’s as though you’re staring straight into glass. The tour sometimes winds its way to “Hell’s Gates,” that notorious, really narrow harbour entrance with a name, obviously, meant to deter convicts. Anyway, the cruise usually, often, involves a stop at Sarah Island. It’s the oldest convict settlement in Tasmania. So, in a way, it gets you thinking. You might almost stroll where those convicts once did. Plus, the rainforest parts of the cruise are like stepping into another land. Keep an eye peeled for local wildlife. I mean, who wouldn’t like to spot a white-bellied sea eagle? We think, generally, the morning timeslot tends to be pretty ideal. It’s a good plan for those who wanna jam pack more adventure into their day. Oh, and don’t be shocked. This river looks very similar to that in the movie “Anaconda”. 2. West Strahan: Hogarth Falls Walk & Beach Exploration

Hogarth Falls Walk

Okay, so you fancy something a bit less “organized?” How about this then: hogarth Falls, you know, it’s that very gentle walk which delivers some seriously pretty views. It might be perfect if the agenda includes being, naturally, in nature. What is cool, actually, about this track is how accessible it could be. So, that said, pretty much most people could enjoy it. Those falls? Amazing. Think ferns. Lots and lots of ferny foliage with water trickling down rocks. Afterwards, what might you fancy doing, then, hey? Just very, very head down to the shores. Ocean Beach’s that seriously huge, rather wild spot. It’s so gorgeous for strolls, actually. Especially if it’s you looking for the “end of the world” type feel. Pretty windswept and dramatic! Anyway, the coastline’s just waiting to be seen.

3. Strahan’s Historic Highlights Tour

Historic Highlights Tour Strahan

If the history’s, I mean, what floats your boat, right, this one, this is really, like your winner! Strahan’s has loads of yarns, I’m saying, with convicts and pioneers. And, that means, some tough times that this tour actually looks to share! The tour, maybe, stops by some buildings that actually are historic and old as all can be. So, what to see on tour then? Maybe, a look at the Strahan Customs House, perhaps a squiz at the Pioneer Cemetery too. In some respects, this experience can give more background information on Sarah Island too. I mean, you know, without having, actually, to take a specific tour for it. So, I think, that in the end, it’s a great introduction, frankly, to this little harbour village’s interesting background story.

4. Henty Dunes Exploration

Henty Dunes Exploration

Something slightly different, maybe. Anyway, what about these Henty Dunes, hey? Not exactly beach related but it still has sand – big hills of sand! They’re rather special, to say the least, sand dunes north from Strahan! The dunes that often almost appear golden. In other words, they’re quite a place. Walking these might feel kind of surreal. You know, what with views meeting those ocean sights! So, you know, you get great views of everything, basically. Some tour people, it is, they provide things like sandboards or toboggans too. That should make it so, the exploring of the dunes is a lot, lot more thrilling! Don’t forget, by the way, to put sunscreen all over, and bring water.

5. Scenic Seaplane Flight Over Strahan & the Coastline

Scenic Seaplane Flight Tasmania

Fancy kicking things up to, almost, a million for excitement levels? Honestly, if the funds allow, taking one of those really scenic flights, just actually, is, really like your big ticket item. Seaplanes are, very, available, and what you get is almost a bird’s eye, rather epic glimpse into the landforms close by, that, really are world known around Strahan. We are thinking, very much, dramatic coastlines meeting the huge and gorgeous Gordon River region right down below. You could see places from above. Areas you might otherwise just, perhaps, never know. The whole thing is that these, actually, flights take in much for a bit of time. That being said they’re still a fairly high cost, though. Also, those trips run depending if Mother Nature is, you know, kind of playing nice, very honestly. That’s what you would call great value for money!
