1. Herceg Novi: A Walk Through History

Just a hop, skip, and a jump, like, a few kilometers down the road from Igalo, is Herceg Novi. Anyway, Herceg Novi it could be seen as a spot steeped in history. This town has been held by several different empires. Now, this left it with a very cool mix of architectural styles. You can wander through the Old Town. Also, check out the Kanli Kula fortress for some pretty great views of the bay. The main square, Trg Herceg Stjepana, is full of cafés and that, really, is just the spot to chill out. People-watching and that is so an underrated sport! Or if you’re feeling more active, very feel free to stroll along the seaside promenade. It stretches all the way back to Igalo. Now, you’ll have all those views the whole way. See Prices, Availability & Reserve Now (Herceg Novi Day Trip)

2. Rose Village: Untouched Coastal Charm

Fancy escaping those crowds a bit? Right then, take a boat trip to the little village of Rose. Very often this small village is a hidden gem on the Lustica Peninsula. It has these stone houses covered in bougainvillea. I would mention that is very beautiful to observe. Plus, there are old fortifications around the bay that saw use during some past war. So, what does it look like? You might just find some of Montenegro’s clearest water here, really. That water is seriously calling your name for a swim! I swear, too it’s the perfect spot to chill on the beach or grab a bite at a local konoba (tavern). Fresh seafood, so close to the sea! Seriously, nothing beats it, okay?

3. Kotor: Medieval Splendor and Bay Views

Kotor, really, that should be on anyone’s must-see list if they are travelling anywhere near Montenegro, very Kotor. This is so only an hour or so drive from Igalo. As a matter of fact, it is a completely different atmosphere than Igalo. The Old Town, enclosed within fortifications dating way back to the Venetian, has that UNESCO World Heritage thingy. Too it’s really stunning. But what will you actually do? So, wander through the narrow streets, visit St. Tryphon Cathedral, too, it’s pretty old! After this climb up to St. John’s Fortress for probably some insane panoramic views of Kotor Bay. Pro-tip for any thinking of going: do it in the morning or late afternoon when too it’s cooler; that climb is intense!

4. Perast: Baroque Beauty on the Bay

While you’re near Kotor, just, very please, check out Perast! Anyway, it is this little town. Right, Perast is located on the Bay of Kotor. Okay, now hear this: It seriously has some incredible views of the bay. More to the point there are these two islets: St. George and Our Lady of the Rocks. Also, on those very islets there are churches! Is that not beautiful? Take a boat out to Our Lady of the Rocks and explore the church. It actually has some amazing artwork. Perast itself is calmer than Kotor. It is rather nice for an afternoon stroll and a relaxed lunch right on the water.

5. Budva: Beaches and Nightlife

Feeling something different? More or less a beach bum? Looking for something fun to do after dusk? Budva might just do the trick. That being said, it’s about an hour’s drive from Igalo. Seriously, Budva offers these cool, lively vibes that will almost make you want to relocate! Think awesome sandy beaches. Also, there is that very famous Old Town to wander around, like what most Montenegrin towns have. Then, by night, everything very comes alive with bars and clubs. Now, if that ain’t for you. Still, go to Mogren Beach for some quieter sunbathing. The place is beautiful! Also, explore the Citadel for those awesome views. You will feel alive once you step foot here.

Igalo Excursions – Helpful tips!

  • The key to having a fun daytrip from Igalo really rests in being ready!
  • First up: decide if you are thinking of travelling there alone, using public transportation, organized trips, and all that. That way, it won’t be hard to figure out.
  • Public transport in Montenegro is sort of what I call reliable: that means it’s available. Keep a watch of the timetable, it is best you look into it ahead.
  • Are you renting a car? Parking in any Old Town has the same level of scarcity with unobtanium. Also driving that road by Kotor and all that, might cause a fright. That said, there may be buses that handle that. So do not rent a car.
  • The Bay of Kotor towns like to provide tours for that, you might try to get those boats instead, especially if going to Our Lady of the Rocks.
  • In either of the towns discussed, that walking will certainly make you sweat! Take water with you! Sunscreen! You need those.
