Top Northampton Food & Drink: A Local’s Review

Northampton, you see, is a great spot, one that very quietly dishes out an array of, well, just wonderfully good spots to get something to eat and also to quench your thirst. It’s got that certain vibe, right, you know the sort, that comes from being a historic market town which, very quietly too, has accepted modern times; it’s got spots which cater to any kind of mood. Anyway, this isn’t just a list; that said, this is a look into places, rather wonderful places, that someone living in town actually frequents. I hope so, you will find a new fave, or be reassured about a treasured usual.

Northampton Food

1. The Old House

The Old House, in fact, sits in a very charming spot just right in the heart of Northampton’s old town. That said, it does do more than rely on simply its surroundings, you see. That noted, the venue is like a really inviting pub, but it comes with seriously elevated gastropub fare, actually, with very proper restaurant quality food, very unexpectedly to be honest. It might be its inviting environment, right, what I would describe as rustic-chic, but then also the menus will keep people coming, really. If so, expect to find very classic British plates, though with just a flourish, just to keep everyone happy, very much focused on seasonal stuff, in effect all served to a pretty elevated level for food in such places too.

The Old House Northampton

The Sunday roasts, so yes, the roasts here, they’re nearly infamous within the town – get down early though is the best thing I could advise, honestly, since they’re likely to go! And yet, it is still a super place to go drink, so even if you aren’t in the mood to stuff your face – they do have an array of local ales and carefully considered wines, pretty great after a day walking about. You might like your experiences here; basically the combination of very stellar food, good booze, and a setting with charm by the bucketload is very simple, very difficult to dismiss too it’s almost as if its magic is at work.

2. Magee Street Bakery

If so, you want coffee that goes down rather perfectly, and a slice of just heavenly baked wonder, anyway, go look at Magee Street Bakery; the shop itself is so quite simple and welcoming – this could easily be the centerpiece of some trendy street down in London, frankly. Actually, the main deal with Magee Street is so they just focus on proper artisan baking – that could be you picking up that loaf which feeds the whole family, or maybe you grabbing just something sweet alongside an espresso to enjoy for just a quiet time – either will do, of course.

Magee Street Bakery Northampton

Still, it could be its just daily baked bread which you may be there for, anyway the sourdough is actually pretty famous and for great reason. You might actually enjoy that their cakes, oh gosh, these – these will cause the average person to have trouble picking just one thing, you know. Still, the team at Magee Street aren’t resting, as a matter of fact, very often, they run baking classes for you eager folks to get to grips with some baking basics, pretty educational in effect. So actually, this might just be your place for picking up morning fuel, or rather something wonderful to get later; it all works since it’s a spot with focus to make simple things very spectacularly well.

3. NUVO Restaurant

Okay, NUVO Restaurant is actually for that person hunting for something kind of upscale, the kind of spot great to mark, like, a great happening. At the same time, though, in some respects its not stuffy, not at all. The interior is a place very beautifully styled, which uses subtle mood lighting just so, you see – just great for any special kind of intimate dinner too. Basically, NUVO pitches as being modern British, you see, yet you might spot plenty of influence from, say, very more international sources, that said all of this comes from someone cooking in a style with an incredible eye towards just stellar presentation, and serious attention put towards taste.

NUVO Restaurant Northampton

For example, take your typical menu, which may offer stuff you think you recognize, you know like, maybe a cutlet of lamb, so typical right – though do not assume, you might have flavors in the accompaniments that are bound to shock; its this very thing that does mark NUVO apart, definitely, because it does just manage that elusive trick of making some standard plates quite novel in their total forms, in a way pretty unique in effect. Honestly, it would also be foolish not to touch upon the drinks menu; if so, then prepare to find a cocktail list which is nearly as extensive, though arguably exciting, really. Still, anyway, for the person that is a fan of, that more fancy setting, it really could be this venue that is like your special choice; go expecting a level of craft, anyway you likely won’t be disappointed by any measure.

4. The Lamplighter

Oh! A proper public house in a way, The Lamplighter feels almost removed in total from many modern affectations, to be honest. Like your typical old pub goes, so what do you get? Well, wooden furnishing with charm dripping from, basically, just its core, just old décor on every inch of wall that still seems well placed anyway. That’s to say nothing for it’s very comforting ambience too. You can bet your bottom dollar they likely are pouring you a proper real ale here, or better still maybe you’ll find it the site of like a smaller beer festival, as a matter of fact, its all fairly authentic to the pubs roots; you might like its honesty a great deal.

The Lamplighter Northampton

Basically, though maybe this lacks some kind of fancy food selection – though, if you just want something tasty and quick they’ve got it – but the venue just speaks volumes, to be honest. I would note to you; anyway, expect this thing: a friendly vibe with conversations filling the air. Alright, for what feels a million miles from pretension, also authenticity instead in its place; definitely consider checking The Lamplighter sometime for some needed drinks!

5. V&B (Vesuvio and Browns)

Anyway, for any one wanting to drink someplace very trendy; yes, right there, I said trendy, V&B comes from the merger of two places in town, in other words Vesuvio, which is great Italian spot, and Browns, just a Champagne lounge; yet they come together with such an elegant ease, basically its like they might’ve always existed just so, like your ideal place.

V&B (Vesuvio and Browns) Northampton

Still, anyway the place is actually, very seriously trendy but – this still remains quite welcoming to anyone and everyone as a matter of fact, still. Maybe this spot manages a level of class but, no you do not feel intimidated by the very same things it’s almost amazing what a nice spot this remains still for everybody. They do feature a fantastic outdoor seating too. Honestly, though maybe prices may appear elevated – it still remains one of the spots in town to experience sometime with friends, at the end of the day you’ll probably keep making excuses to keep coming soon after.
