In fact, it’s true, that the area surrounding Olympia boasts some seriously stunning vineyards and super fun tasting rooms. That said, it might be a bit overwhelming figuring out where to even start. That is where this guide steps in, ready to share some must-try wine tours and tastings that you, too, can totally enjoy.

1. Madsen Family Cellars: A Cozy Family Affair

Madsen Family Cellars

Okay, so first up is Madsen Family Cellars. Like, if you are seeking something that feels genuine and heartwarming, in some respects this should totally be your jam. Because the Madsen family puts their heart and soul into crafting really, really remarkable wines. Also, what’s really neat, is that the tasting room just a little south of Olympia, it is in fact located in an older converted barn, which adds to the overall rural vibe.

Speaking of the barn, when you walk inside, there is something nice about it. I mean the place feels warm and looks beautiful. That is, the staff is more or less very approachable and are rather excited to walk you through the range of their wines, so feel free to ask as many questions you need. As a matter of fact, their reds are particularly superb; very deep, rich flavors, is that they are something special for sure. Also, what you want to consider, is pairing the wine with some cheese and crackers. Because honestly, it makes for a picture-perfect afternoon.

2. Stottle Winery: Award-Winning Wines with a View

Stottle Winery

Now then, are you someone who likes prizes or just very popular wines? Stottle Winery is that, too, a pretty solid selection. Because it’s not just the awards, it’s the dedication that really shines through at this winery near the town of Littlerock. Yet, they source their grapes from various parts of Washington State, meaning is that you’ll get a rather wide array of flavors in their wines. Frankly, from crisp whites to hearty reds, the tasting experience offers a showcase of the state’s diversity. As a matter of fact, their picturesque views don’t hurt either.

Also, what’s something neat, is that they often host events like live music and special pairing evenings. In that case, this should always be checked to see what’s upcoming before your visit, might be a good thing to do. Still, the tasting room itself is cozy and casual, really perfect for a relaxed outing with people who share a similar interest. First, the staff knows their stuff and make the tasting both fun and really informative. Basically, that’s everything you really can ask for, okay?

3. Walter Dacon Wines: History in Every Sip

Walter Dacon Wines

Now then, history buffs who very happen to also appreciate a very good glass of wine, pay very close attention to Walter Dacon Wines. You see, is that this winery draws its name from a pioneer family that arrived in Washington Territory way way back, giving the wines a deeper historical connection. Clearly, what that means is, it brings something to the table other wineries cannot bring. Basically, the winery focuses mostly on cool-climate varieties.

That said, I am speaking of Pinot Noir and Madeleine Angevine; very lovely and complex. Besides, their tasting room gives amazing views overlooking Puget Sound. In other words, this is your background when you taste wine. You want views? This tasting experience almost seems to make the wines taste more exceptional, I believe. Anyway, the atmosphere seems to be relaxed and the service feels more like a tour of historical appreciation, so don’t miss Walter Dacon if this is something that interests you.

4. Hard Row to Hoe Vineyards: A Touch of Intrigue

Hard Row to Hoe Vineyards

Hard Row to Hoe Vineyards is a touch out of Olympia near Lake Chelan. At any rate, it has a reputation as somewhat quirky because of a colorful history connected with the area. Also, are you ready for something cool? See, its name very nods to the area’s past as a source of illicit activities during the early 20th century.

Also, they embrace the quirkiness and it shows in everything from their super suggestive labels to their storytelling during tastings. See, is that they source fruit from their estate vineyard and from other select vineyards across Washington, creating a variety of wines which almost offer something for all preferences. As I was saying, a lot of people find themselves excited about experiencing wines, and taking in that atmosphere can be something really fun and interesting for groups. Because honestly, who wants boring and the same ol’, anyway?

5. Scatter Creek Winery & Brewing: A Blend of Both Worlds

Scatter Creek Winery & Brewing

At last, should half your crew be obsessed with wine, while the other is very hooked on beer? Because I think Scatter Creek Winery & Brewing might be the ticket. I mean they kind of serve two purposes. Anyway, it might be found near Tenino. That is that you could, more or less, sample craft beers and taste local wines right at one location, giving some leeway for different tastes.

Because their wines are often fruit-forward and super approachable. Similarly to their beers which include various types to enjoy. What I like, it’s that Scatter Creek really excels because of their really relaxed attitude, really good for a casual stop after experiencing some other tours of the south Puget Sound area. Basically, you could kick back. Well, I would not blame you if you did, and try either, that, the wine or the beer. This can all be a cool experience after some nature walks and hikes around.
