These caves, naturally sitting a little outside of Oudtshoorn, so are more or less this really unreal series of caverns carved right into the foothills of the Swartberg Mountains. Is that right? We might want to choose a standard tour, or maybe even kick things up a notch with an adventure tour; either way, there really is something here for everyone. The adventure tour, by the way, usually tends to involve, that’s right squeezing through tighter spaces – a proper kick if you are game! It’s still all a worthy and thrilling visit, just packed full of some mind blowing formations and enough history, basically to keep you hooked. So anyway it’s really important to consider your level of comfort with, just well confined spaces, just to land on the kind of adventure that is actually going to suit you.

I guess for a standard tour, you might find yourself walking down comfortably wide pathways, gawking at vast halls filled with all the magnificent stalactites and stalagmites. The guide, in that case, might be providing pretty engaging information, so that you get to grips with how the cave evolved, with little historical factoids thrown in. Otherwise you could just go on that adventure tour – it involves all that clambering, that crawling – and I promise it does deliver some pretty wild photo opportunities, for what that is worth! You know, in Oudtshoorn, these ostriches are arguably the thing, and the Safari Ostrich Show Farm, it tends to be this totally perfect venue, especially when you are wanting a chance, right, to actually meet some of these tall flightless birds. Apparently tours run more or less often throughout the day, giving you this fantastic up-close glimpse of what ostrich farming looks like. From hatching to, so the somewhat slightly quirky ostrich races, you will probably find this visit fairly insightful, slightly educational and surprisingly, just a little entertaining, for what it’s worth.

They still claim to host the friendliest and best ostriches around – and that is their unique selling point. So what can you expect? So they say it is basically everything from watching the eggs hatching – obviously it depends what time you go, mind you! – to, just learning loads more on how ostrich feathers go from bird to glam fashion item. Yes, this is the place where you can probably test the unbelievable strength of ostrich eggs by, so standing on them, if that happens to appeal. Basically you may even find the courage for an ostrich ride, just you know for those stories.

3. Cango Wildlife Ranch Tickets

If wildlife tends to be something you have an affinity for, that Cango Wildlife Ranch, more or less sitting right close to the Cango Caves, tends to be this cracking place to explore a variety of animal species, which is a great thing. Isn’t it?. Usually housing anything starting with crocodiles to cheetahs, it gives people the prospect of spotting multiple creatures you probably wouldn’t often encounter anywhere else. I mean I suppose so, there’s also, if that’s what floats your boat, the option of cage diving with crocodiles… if you tend to be that way inclined!

But is it ethical? So that question is on the lips of a lot of tourists right now. Apparently it can give a really up-close-and-totally-personal experience, and anyway the park’s commitment is seemingly to educating people while helping with conservation efforts. Apparently there’s everything to see here: birds, tons of big cats, a massive assortment of snakes, plus some amazing opportunities, for example getting that perfect photograph during a supervised cheetah encounter. And for anybody considering this kind of encounter, please make sure you understand just what the organization stands for in the ways of conservation, and how exactly they’re treating their animals. You will just need to actually do your homework, alright, before you visit.

4. Swartberg Pass Day Trip Tickets

Arguably one of the region’s prime assets happens to be its stunning views and spectacular terrain, right, the Swartberg Pass Day Trip tends to be the perfect way for you to just soak all that beauty in. This thrilling journey through the mountain range just takes you right into what seems to be the heart of the Klein Karoo, with its stunning viewpoints and winding roads. I guess the views are really unreal, offering some amazing photographic potential. Too it’s almost quite a rugged adventure.

Basically you should know: it’s that drive that just snakes all its way across the Swartberg Mountains; still, you should probably brace yourself to experience some unreal, hair-raising sights as the track cuts its way over mountain passes, bends, and curves. Designed and constructed way, way back by Thomas Bain – who actually designed a crazy number of passes back then – it remains, so a really iconic and an often totally Instagrammed route thanks to some views which literally will make your jaw drop. Just please note – you are almost probably better off in a vehicle equipped for off-road, particularly should conditions, arguably, become quite slippery from rain.

5. Meerkat Adventure Tour Tickets

Anyway if the thought of greeting meerkats right at sunrise really gets you buzzing, maybe then the Meerkat Adventure Tour still is pretty much the activity that’s just unmissable. The tours, often launching super early, right, give you the somewhat unusual prospect of witnessing those families of meerkats as they get up for their day, warming up from what, let’s be fair, must have been a chilly desert night. Anyway that proximity to the meerkats provides, just the kind of intimate, personal wildlife moment most of us merely hope for.

It probably does entail you having to wake up super-early, just like around dawn actually, if you are, alright, wanting a chance to literally chill with those absolutely wonderful wild critters in their somewhat really comfortable natural habitat. The rangers will usually take you there on, you know, what usually becomes a magical trip to the colony close to where they are sleeping, just getting you settled right down to witness as those meerkats basically wake and prepare to start a new day, literally climbing onto each other as the sun rises! Usually do bring some warm stuff: very early starts around the Karoo might still become pretty icy, even during warmer times. Too it’s almost worth it for a totally unreal sight to behold.

Alright Oudtshoorn is a beautiful place just absolutely crammed with a selection of quite unreal sights plus interesting activities to entertain. Just consider some things like what is absolutely thrilling for you – something really active versus something which basically entails gentle wandering, to help you get absolutely all you can out of this totally stunning region of South Africa!
