Ubud Tanah Lot Highlights Tour: My 2025 Look at the Monkey Forest, Temple & Sunset

So, you are probably picturing what a full day in Bali looks like, you know? There’s just so much to see, and at the end of the day, trying to fit it all in can feel like a big puzzle. Well, we were looking for something that mixed the green, spiritual center of Ubud with the famous coastline, which is a pretty popular idea. That’s actually how we stumbled upon the ‘Ubud Tanah Lot Highlights Tour’. The whole idea of the tour, basically, is to give you a big taste of Bali in one go. You get to see playful monkeys in their natural home, experience some really old Balinese culture, and then finish it all off by watching the sun go down over a temple in the sea. To be honest, it sounded like a seriously good plan for a single day of discovery. This review is basically all about what our experience was like, what we thought was great, and some little things to keep in mind if you’re thinking of doing it too, you know?

Ubud Tanah Lot Highlights Tour Bali

Starting the Day in the Sacred Monkey Forest

Alright, so the day usually kicks off with a pickup from your hotel, which is really convenient. Our guide was, frankly, very friendly and gave us some cold water right away. Our first major stop was the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary in Ubud, and honestly, the name doesn’t even do it justice. The second you walk in, it’s like stepping into a different world. It’s incredibly green, and the air just feels a little bit cooler and more humid, you know? You can immediately hear the sounds of the forest and, of course, the chatter of the long-tailed macaques that call this place home. It’s almost like they own the place, strutting around like little bosses.

There are, like, literally hundreds of them everywhere. Some are mothers with tiny babies clinging to their bellies, which is really sweet to see. Others are just chilling on the statues, which are all covered in this soft green moss, making everything look ancient. Frankly, our guide gave us a really important heads-up: keep your sunglasses, hats, and any shiny things tucked away in your bag. These monkeys are, in a way, very curious and incredibly quick, and they will totally try to snag anything that catches their eye. We saw someone nearly lose their glasses, so you definitely want to listen to that advice. You can, by the way, walk along these beautiful stone paths, over dragon bridges, and past old temples inside the forest. At the end of the day, it’s more than just a place to see monkeys; it’s a pretty significant spiritual spot for the Balinese people.

A Break for Coffee and Local Flavors

After all the monkey business, the tour typically includes a stop that’s a little more relaxed. We were, you know, taken to a local coffee plantation. Now, I have to be honest, I’m a big coffee fan, so I was really looking forward to this part. These places are often small, family-run operations, so it feels very personal. The main thing they show you is the process for making ‘Kopi Luwak’, which is that famous coffee made from beans that have been eaten and, well, passed by a small cat-like creature called a palm civet. You know what I mean, right?

Bali Coffee Plantation Tasting

They walk you through the whole thing, from seeing the civets to watching how they roast the beans by hand over a fire. It’s actually a really interesting process to witness up close. But the best part, for instance, is the tasting session that comes after the tour. They bring out this big tray with lots of little cups on it. You usually get to try a whole bunch of different things for free, like your ginger tea, lemongrass tea, coconut coffee, and ginseng coffee. Seriously, the variety is pretty amazing. You just have to pay a little extra if you want to try a cup of the actual Kopi Luwak. So, we decided to give it a go. It was surprisingly smooth and not bitter at all, a very unique flavor. At the end of the day, it was a nice, peaceful break in the day’s schedule.

Feeling the Spray at Tegenungan Waterfall

Next up, it was time to see one of Bali’s pretty waterfalls. Tegenungan Waterfall isn’t located deep in the mountains; it’s actually pretty close to Ubud, which makes it a popular spot. Just so you know, getting to the main waterfall area involves walking down a fair number of concrete steps. It’s definitely manageable, but you’ll want to wear some comfortable shoes, for sure. As you get closer, you can really start to feel the cool mist on your skin and hear the powerful sound of the water. The waterfall itself is seriously impressive, just a huge curtain of water thundering down into a pool below.

It’s, like, a really great place for taking photos. There are a few different spots, including a kind of heart-shaped nest thing you can sit in for a cool picture with the falls in the background. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can actually go for a swim in the pool at the bottom, but the current can be pretty strong, so you have to be careful. For us, just sitting on a rock and watching the sheer force of the water was honestly enough. By the way, there are some small shops and cafes at the top near the entrance, so you can grab a cold drink or a snack before you head back up all those stairs. It was, in short, a refreshing stop that added a different kind of natural beauty to the day.

The Grand Finale: Sunset Over Tanah Lot Temple

Okay, so this was the moment we were really waiting for all day. The drive from the Ubud area to the coast where Tanah Lot is located takes a little while, so it’s a good time to just relax in the car. As you get closer to the coast, you can almost smell the salt in the air. Tanah Lot Temple is probably one of the most photographed places in all of Bali, and as a matter of fact, you can see why right away. The main temple sits on this huge rock formation just off the coast. The name itself, Tanah Lot, means ‘Land in the Sea’, which is pretty much what it is.

Sunset at Tanah Lot Temple Bali

This spot is a really important sea temple for the Balinese Hindus. During low tide, you can actually walk right out to the base of the rock. You can’t go inside the temple itself unless you are there to pray, but you can receive a blessing from the priests with holy water from a freshwater spring that flows from the rock. The whole area gets very busy around sunset, so you want to find a good spot to watch the show. Our guide, thankfully, knew a great viewing point at one of the cliffside cafes. We just ordered a couple of drinks and settled in. Honestly, watching the sky change colors from blue to orange and pink, with the temple’s dark shape against it all, was just absolutely incredible. It’s one of those views that really sticks with you, you know?

So, Is This Day Trip the Right Choice for You?

At the end of the day, a tour like this one packs a lot into a relatively short amount of time. If it’s your first time in Bali or you’re on a tight schedule, it’s honestly a fantastic way to see some major highlights. You get that great mix of culture, nature, and that picture-perfect coastal scene without having to worry about booking drivers or figuring out directions yourself. It’s pretty much all done for you, which is really nice. You just get to sit back and enjoy the ride, you know?

Bali Tour Highlights

On the other hand, if you’re the kind of person who really likes to take your time and explore one place deeply, this might feel a little bit fast-paced. You’re sort of on a schedule, moving from one spot to the next. So, you might not get to spend, like, three hours just wandering around the Monkey Forest on your own. It’s more of a greatest-hits album than a deep dive into one specific artist, if that makes sense. Frankly, it all depends on your travel style. For people who want a taste of everything and value convenience, this tour is, sort of, perfectly designed. It really delivers on its promise of showing you some of Bali’s most iconic sights in one unforgettable day.
