Think winding trails that go seemingly for days. Then very, very, the Sierra Calderona Natural Park could be, might be, tends to be, your kind of spot, that. Right on the edge of Valencia, what it offers is, kind of, like your ideal escape from all the urban hustle that seems to follow us these days. It’s almost really one of the closer places in the province you may want to find yourself in a completely various, more serene location.
Imagine the fragrance of pine trees filling the air as you climb through varied landscapes, yet. Actually, you’re, sort of, surrounded by views of rolling hills as you weave through routes once touched by Romans and Iberians, really. As I was saying, these mountains hold centuries of history in them – and what makes each hike something completely different, for example. Some routes, that, like the climb to Garbí peak, have steep ascents, or, which really reward hikers with views, more or less, that could nearly be described as “breathtaking” – or strolls such as the path from Porta Coeli Monastery, seemingly gentle and serene. Just really research your specific destination, it’s almost always smart before you even decide what kind of adventure you’re aiming for here.
If you are just, honestly, sort of, planning a visit: the Sierra Calderona trails see sunshine virtually throughout the year, still. To be honest, at the end of the day, it’s best to go in the cooler months to avoid the worst heat. Be sure to have enough water; it can actually, anyway, clearly get very, very dehydrating out there, and a packed lunch, more or less, that. To put it simply, I often feel this: what’s the experience of a hike without, at the end of the day, some awesome snacks?
